Frequently Asked Questions
When should I start physiotherapy after a car accident?
As soon as possible! Early treatment can reduce pain, prevent stiffness, and improve recovery outcomes. Even if you are not feeling a lot of pain, booking a physiotherapy appointment early can help catch things before they become long-term issues.
Do I need a doctor’s referral?
No referral is required to begin physiotherapy after an MVA
What if my pain starts days after the accident?
Delayed symptoms are common after MVAs as your body adjusts to the impacts of the collision. Physiotherapy is still highly effective even days after. But this is why we recommend booking an appointment just in case to catch anything that may come up a couple days after an accident.
What is the OCF-1?
The OCF-1 is the application for accident benefits. It is the first document you should aim to complete to begin your car accident insurance claims in Ontario. Submitting it to your insurer allows you to access financial support for physiotherapy services.
Do I need to use my personal health insurance for MVA physiotherapy services?
Yes, in Ontario you need to exhaust workplace benefits or private health plans first. Following this, auto insurers will then step in to cover the costs remaining. Maximums covered by auto insurers will depend on injuries sustained for whether you fall under the minor-injury guideline or professional service guideline (for catastrophic or non-catastrophic injuries).
